Academic Grading Policy
Each student will earn a minimum of 4 grades per 9-week grading period. These grades will be a combination of unit assessments, written classwork, instrument/singing skills rubrics, dance/movement rubrics, composition assignments, reading of rhythms/notes/pitches, and activity participation.
45% - Major Category (at least 1 assessment)
40% - Minor Category (at least 1 assessment)
15% - Practice Category (at least 2 assessments)

Music Class Rules & Expectations
In addition to an academic mark, students at SHE receive marks for conduct in Special Area classes. In music class we follow a 3-warning system through which students have 2 opportunities to improve behavior before receiving a negative mark for the day.
Behavior is recorded daily in the teacher's behavior log by 9-week grading periods. Students who receive 3 strikes in a class period (or an automatic reflection form for severe behavior) will receive a negative mark for behavior for that week. Students who receive 3 negative behavior marks on their weekly behavior chart (or a reflection form in any music class) will be sent home with a Music Behavior Note. Upon receiving 2 Behavior Notes (ie. 6 negative marks OR 2 reflection forms in music), student will receive an "N" for conduct on their next progress report. Behavior that interferes with academic success can effect a student's academic mark on progress reports. The system is as follows:

- First behavior note- Homeroom teacher will be notified and Music Behavior Note will be sent home to parent/s. Ms. Goldfuss will notify parent(s) by email/phone to schedule a conference if necessary.
- Second behavior note- Homeroom teacher will be notified and Music Behavior Note will be sent home to parent/s. Progress Report will be marked with "N" for behavior for the current 9-week grading period; Ms. Goldfuss will notify parent(s) by phone & email to schedule conference.
- Additional behavior notes- Homeroom teacher, parents, and administration will be contacted as necessary to determine effects on academic performance. Academic grade will be adjusted accordingly based on student performance observation & assessment scores.
