Musician of the Month
In our day-to-day music classes at SHE, we focus on learning primarily through movement, exploration, creation and performance. Musician of the Month days are a-typical in that we utilize some of our class time to sit down together and learn about a musician (or a group of musicians) who has had a significant impact on present-day music. We explore facts, view photos and videos, listen to songs, and discuss the impact of these musicians on our community and world cultures.
Despite having such unlimited exposure to music today, we so often find our youth listening to only one or two different kinds of music or musical artists. Musician of the Month days serve as important opportunities for our students to discover incredible men and women who have had a significant impact on the evolution of music throughout history. Each month, we engage in discussions and make real-world connections that allow us to understand the history of all different genres of music. It is vital for our students to have an understanding of the artistry that musicians have developed over time to produce the various different types of music we enjoy today.
Musician of the Month days allow us to explore new ideas, express personal musical preference, and draw connections between past and present musicians and genres. This exposure helps develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for music and adds another layer of engagement to our daily music class experiences!
