Unit 2 (9 Weeks): Melody and Harmony

- Recognizing and performing various melodic patterns
- Aurally identifying high/low sounds, contours, and tone colors
- Reading and singing Solfege with Curwen hand signs
- Singing songs with increasing pitch accuracy
- Responding to music through ear training and tonal memory
- Performing folk songs in native and foreign languages
Unit 3 (9 Weeks): Expression and Movement
Students will engage in developmentally appropriate lessons and activities focusing on:
- Understanding music in relation to history, culture, math, language, and science
- Performing in dances, song stories, singing games, and musical dramatizations
- Moving expressively to multiple styles of music
- Evaluating music and performances
- Creating movement and text to familiar songs
- Identifying contrasts in music in regards to tempo, dynamics, and style
